About Cents Daily
Money advice from someone who’s actually lived it
Hi, and welcome to Cents Daily.
I’m the voice behind this site: a woman on the far side of 50 who has made just about every money mistake there is, and learned something from every one of them. I’ve stretched a paycheck, dug out of debt, raised a family on a budget that never quite felt like enough, and watched the markets crash and climb more times than I can count. I don’t have a fancy title or a suit. What I have is decades of real life with real money, and a deep dislike of the way personal finance is usually explained.
Why this site exists
Most money advice is either written in a language nobody speaks, or it’s the same tired lecture: skip the coffee, clip the coupons, and somehow retire rich. That’s not helpful, and honestly, it’s a little insulting. Real money decisions happen in the middle of real life, with bills due and choices that aren’t simple.
Cents Daily is where I share the money truths I wish someone had told me at 25, 35, and 45. Plain English. No jargon. No judgment. Just the things that actually move the needle, explained the way I’d explain them to a friend at my kitchen table.
What you’ll find here
- Straight talk on the basics — saving, budgeting, credit, and debt, without the shame.
- The stuff nobody explains — how credit really works, what compound interest actually does, how to think about insurance and retirement before it’s too late.
- A little humor, because if you can’t laugh about money you’ll cry about it.
What this isn’t
I’m not your financial advisor, and nothing here is individualized financial, investment, tax, or legal advice. Everyone’s situation is different. Think of this site as a knowledgeable friend pointing you in the right direction, then talk to a qualified professional about your specific circumstances before you make a big move. (See our full Disclaimer.)
